Non-Surgical Aesthetic Trends for 2021: What Are the Big Hits?

Can we say we are relieved 2020 is over? Not really. Even though we might have hoped that once the clock ticks midnight, everything would go back to the pre-pandemic world, we know that is irrational. The pandemic we lived in continues to be our present for the time being. But it’s completely normal that you’re fed up and are thinking about the plans for 2021. Will there be travel? Will we take our masks off? And most importantly, what are the big aesthetic trends of 2021 when it comes to beauty and non-surgical treatments that promise enhancement, improvement, fuller lips, and thinner thighs? We’re listening to what the experts say. Get ready!

Aesthetic Injectables

Botox and filler are the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments, and it’s no wonder they will keep blooming and remain popular aesthetic trends. After all, we’ve all been looking at our faces every day and showing them to the world on Zoom! 2021 injectable trends lean towards a natural result. Micro-tox is the newest Botox technique and is used to create natural-looking results that won’t go unnoticed.

Lip Fillers

Even though our lips are hidden behind the mask most of the time, they are absolutely not a thing of the past. Beautiful lips are always in fashion, and we don’t think this trend is going away anytime soon! What we see changing is the way we want our lips to look after they are injected. 2021 is all about looking natural and with new fillers on the market like Restylane Kysse, you can have full lips that look and feel more natural than ever. For those who aim at “just a little,” Botox Lip Flip has already proven to be a hit in 2020 – we expect this to boom even more.

So you’ve had your share of fillers and love the results, but are not that thrilled that you have to redo the treatment every now and then? Not to mention the price – great results come with a cost, and they shouldn’t be compromised in order to save some dollars. Enter nanofat. Nanofat results from the new refined technology that processes natural fat and smooths it out to a consistency of, say, a milkshake. That’s actually very similar to the consistency of lip fillers. Nanofat acts like other fillers but comes with a clear advantage – it’s permanent. We believe it’s going to be a hit!

Masseter Botox

We wrote about this use of Botox for slimming down your jaw. But masseter Botox is so much more than that! For one, targeting the masseter muscle with Botox paralyzes it and thus stops that unpleasant teeth grinding. But it being unpleasant, mostly for the person that sleeps next to you, is not the worst thing. It actually causes pain and extra tension in this muscle, as well as headaches. Masseter Botox lets you live without these conditions. As we’re really paying so much attention to our health as we are to the beauty – as it should be – we believe masseter Botox will be another hit this year.

Tear Trough Treatment

Thanks to face masks, everyone’s focus shifted to the eyes – both our own and other people’s. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that we predict tear through treatment to be huge this year, as it’s already been growing momentum for a while. This treatment involves administering dermal filler into points in the under-eye area, intending to smooth the transition between the lower eyelid and upper cheek. This area contributes to facial attractiveness tremendously. The results are diminished hollows less of dark circles under the eyes. Because these features make a face look tired and older than it is, and as eyes are, unfortunately, often the only part of the face we are seeing, we predict a big surge for the tear through treatment.

Preventative Injectables

Neurotoxins are the best possible treatment for dynamic wrinkles or, more plainly put, those that are made due to repetitive muscle movement. Think smiling or frowning! But they can also be used preventatively. This basically means injecting Botox, Dysport, or another brand name of the botulinum toxin into a face that hasn’t quite yet developed those wrinkles. Doing so in patients in their twenties and thirties will allow them to skip more intensive plastic surgery later in life. We believe more and more young people will start doing preventative Botox before allowing those wrinkles to make an appearance!

Full Face Fillers

Another novelty in the world of fillers is moving away from treating per area and treating the face as a whole instead. Have you seen photos of people who have had one part of their face done, and it doesn’t look the best, even though they haven’t had too much injected? That’s because injecting one area can indeed leave someone looking weird. Excellent injectors know this. They combat the issue by treating the face holistically and, if necessary, injecting several parts of the face to achieve the best look where everything just comes together more naturally!

Body Sculpting

We have seen what big hits CoolTone and CoolSculpting are, and we can only expect the demand to grow. January is a popular time for gyms, new healthy habits, and resolutions. Have you done your best over the years but are still battling the last bastions of resisting fat? CoolSculpting will remove it elegantly over several treatments using the latest cryolipolysis technology. And if you don’t have extra fat but would like to emphasize your muscles without spending literal months in the gym, CoolTone is the answer. Its magnetic muscle stimulation will almost magically enable you to experience tens of thousands of squats or crunches in half an hour. Because these treatments only work on relatively fit people, we expect them to be quite popular after the whole lockdown-and-quarantine situation. Let’s face it, it was easier to munch on something in front of Netflix than maintaining a fitness regimen with gyms closed, right?

Devices and Technology

Technology has long penetrated the beauty world, and we’re so happy with it! It’s getting better by the day, and we cannot help but be excited to see what the future holds. Brands continue to invest in bringing high-tech devices onto the market and utilizing technologies we had no idea could be used in the beauty industry. Think radiofrequency, laser, LED technology, vacuum, plasma, microcurrent, and who knows what else! We are sure 2021 will make some breakthroughs in new technology and devices, leading to many more options for non-invasive aesthetic solutions. Staying tuned!

Medical-grade Skincare

There’s skincare, and then there’s medical-grade skincare. You cannot get it over the counter as it’s sold exclusively in medical offices through licensed practitioners and investing time and money in it can bring outstanding results. Think of it this way: medical-grade skincare is much more potent than produmects you can buy in a drugstore. That is why no one should be free to meddle with it without detailed instructions. More and more aesthetic clinics and medspas are introducing medical-grade skincare to complement their treatments. If you find one of those, you’re in for a real treat. Treat your skin and yourself in 2021!

What to Do Before Your CoolSculpting: 9 Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Treatment

Phew! The celebrations are over, 2021 is finally here, say so long to one of the worst years of our lives. Unfortunately for some of us, along with 2021 came some extra calories that we didn’t spend in time, and now we’re stuck with the fat. Or maybe you’ve been making resolutions of losing weight, but the right moment never seemed to come? Whatever your case is, we understand. It’s been a challenging year, after all. Well, CoolSculpting is a great and proven way to shed excess fat. The treatment literally freezes your fat cells and makes them vanish forever. But to get the best results, you need to know how to prepare for the treatment and what to avoid. Without further ado, here is our list of things you should be aware of before your CoolSculpting treatment.

1. Know the Ins and Outs of CoolSculpting

You may want to know how CoolSculpting works – after all, it will be attached to your body for an hour! The CoolSculpting machine works through a process called cryolipolysis, a procedure where cold temperatures freeze and destroy fat cells. This is mainly to address areas of stubborn fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise. CoolSculpting is not the wave of a magic wand that will miraculously set you free of 50 pounds because it only destroys about 20% of the subcutaneous fat in the treatment area, the fat right underneath the skin and above the muscle. The fat that is deeper in the body you can remove by eating healthy and exercising.

The procedure itself is non-invasive, and it doesn’t involve anesthesia or needles. It targets fat cells and causes their death without affecting other tissues surrounding the fat, such as nerves and muscles. In the months that follow, the lymphatic system filters out those dead fat cells as waste, and once they are gone, they are not coming back.

Since CoolSculpting is not your typical weight loss procedure, you are a good candidate if you’re generally fit and healthy but struggling with some fat bulges you cannot remove. CoolSculpting removes the fat in the following areas: abdomen (upper and lower), thighs (inner and outer), flanks, also called love handles, bra and back fat, under the buttocks, arms, and chin area.

The more you know about the treatment itself, the more relaxed you will approach it. When you know how it works, you’ll know what results to expect!

2. Make a Plan Before CoolSculpting Treatment That You Will Also Use Afterwards

Forming healthy habits is vital for achieving the best results with CoolSculpting. If you are already in your ideal weight range, your results will be quicker and more effective. If you’re not, talk to your medical provider to find the best healthy diet and an exercise regimen. You should be looking at being within five pounds of your ideal weight because then you’ll be able to really see the results. Likewise, maintaining your results will only work if you do. Don’t risk creating new deposits of fat by overeating right after the treatments. Healthy habits are everything!

3. Protect Your Skin

It’s a no brainer: your skin needs to be healthy and intact during the CoolSculpting procedure. Because the treatment involves suction and massage of the area, you want to protect the skin. Please do so by preparing it for CoolSculpting. Avoid tanning, as the area that will be treated with CoolSculpting can get more sensitive. Should you burn in the sun, the treatment may cause an unpleasant feeling that you may want to avoid – think suction of the sunburnt skin! – so you would like to either avoid the sun altogether in the days prior to the treatment or postpone the treatment. The same goes for cuts, bruising, and any other wounds you might have. If you do have them, postpone your treatment. If you don’t, try avoiding activities that might cause them in the days leading to the treatment!

4. Rethink Your Medication

Any medication or supplements that can thin the blood are a no-go for several days before your CoolSculpting treatment. This is because blood thinners before the treatment can increase bruising. Medications and supplements to avoid: aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil, St. Johns Wort. If you’re taking any medication regularly, talk to your doctor so he or she can consider alternatives for you. Lastly, be aware of some herbs that can thin the blood, such as ginger and turmeric. If you can avoid bruising caused by the CoolSculpting applicator, why wouldn’t you, right?

5. Stop Smoking (If Only for a While)

While we’re on the topic of things to avoid before the treatment, we need to mention smoking, too. Smoking can slow the recovery process and delay the results. If you can, refrain from smoking for a week before CoolSculpting.

6. Come in Armed

…with things to do! A session of CoolSculpting usually takes about an hour. If you’ve booked multiple sessions, that means you will spend hours at the clinic or medspa, and it can get boring. Patients usually bring along things that can make the time fly by: books, magazines, iPads. You can read, watch a TV show, listen to a podcast, or just browse the Web. Workaholics can answer their work emails or catch up on a presentation. Whatever you need the additional hour or two for!

7. Make the Treatment as Pleasant as Possible

You should wear loose clothes for your CoolSculpting treatment. Most offices offer disposable clothing for the treatment, but you’ll feel more comfortable if you arrive in loose and comfy clothes that you can wear after the treatment. Alternatively, you can bring a change of clothing. Don’t wear your fancier underwear because they may come in contact with the gel used for skin protection, and stain.

8. Eat a Snack and Stay Hydrated

As the CoolSculpting treatment can last for hours, we advise you to eat a light meal or a snack, so you don’t get hungry (and angry!). Food before the treatment will maintain your blood sugar, energy, and mood during the session. Cut back on caffeine and sodas, and keep a bottle of water near you. You should stay hydrated throughout the treatment to help the body remove the toxins!

9. Ask Questions

If there’s anything you want to know, speak out. Your CoolSculpting provider is there to help you minimize worries and get all the info about the procedure. This applies to both your initial consultation and the treatment itself. Remember, there are no stupid questions! It’s your body and your health, and you deserve to know anything you want.

Even though CoolSculpting is a non-invasive method of losing fat, and there are no thorough preparations like for surgery, it’s still great to know how you can best prepare. This will ensure a smooth procedure and a relaxed patient, leading to better results. Learning helps you get there in the best way possible!

New Year, New Health & Glow: How to Achieve The Best Skin You’ve Ever Had

1. Stay Accountable to Yourself

Overeating is easier when you don’t track what you eat and you “kind of” know what you had today. Change this by tracking everything you consume, and we mean everything, lattes included! Use an app such as My Fitness Pal, or just a good old journal. When you see what you’ve had so far and think about what you will eat later on, you’ll think twice before reaching for something sweet.

2. Do It In Pair

Is there anyone else close to you who you think may benefit from a no-sugar diet or just loves a challenge? Ask them to embark on a no-sugar diet journey with you. It can be a partner, friend, mom, sister, or anyone else you feel you can trust. When you have a partner in crime, you’re more likely to stick to the whole journey!

3. Start Your Day Right

And when we say right, we mean with warm lemon water. Did you know that thirst can actually feel like hunger, and you’ll reach for food instead of water that you need? Prevent this by drinking enough water. Your goal should be to drink half your body weight in ounces every day.

4. Exercise

Of course, we cannot fail to mention this. Exercise is great for your health and looks no matter what your goal is. Thirty minutes of vigorous movement in the morning will stabilize your blood sugar, release hormones that make you feel good and set the theme for the whole day. Knowing that you engaged in an exercise in the very morning, you will want to make better food choices. Try it!

5. Know Your Alternatives

If you usually drink fruit juice in the morning, swap it with a glass of celery juice. Fruit juices are full of sugar. On the contrary, celery juice makes the skin glow, supports the liver, and even suppresses food cravings. Research alternatives for your other habits, and then stick to them!

6. Drink Black Coffee

One such alternative is coffee, but we separated it from the rest because we know how important it is to many. If you usually reach for a mocha frappuccino or a latte with creamer and/or whipped cream, swap it with black coffee. Not only will you consume less sugar, but the usual add-ons make you crave more sugar, so when you skip them, you’ll resist more easily.

7. Plan in Advance

The biggest mistake is not having everything you need in the house, because then you may reach for sugary snacks because it’s easy. Keep ready-to-eat snacks such as cucumbers, carrots, and celery sticks in your fridge. When the sudden urge to snack on something hits, you know where to look!

8. Know Your Levels

Have you done your annual physical and blood test recently? You can do it with your PCP or our provider at Vibrant Vitality Clinic. This is to make sure your hormones are balanced, your vitamin D levels are within normal limits, as well as your blood sugar. You can also do the food sensitivity blood test to tell you which foods cause inflammation in your gut, so you avoid them. You’ll feel better and have fewer cravings!

9. Don’t Eat All Day

In fact, use a 12-hour window and try finishing eating by 7 PM. The period outside your eating window allows your GI tract to work hard and digest everything you’ve had. Then your body can focus on producing hormones and cellular repair while you sleep.

10. Drink Tea Before Bed

One final tip for our reads: a cup of warm herbal tea sets the mood for sleep and signals your body that it’s time to rest. If you can, try to be in bed by 10 PM. Adequate rest is essential for reducing cortisol levels, and it helps you make healthier choices throughout the day.

Now you have it, 10 tips to go through a no-sugar diet in just two weeks! Tell us on our social media how it’s going. Of course, always talk to your healthcare professional before embarking on a new diet or exercise program. If you have abnormal blood sugar levels, this diet is not recommended for you. Schedule a consultation with Vibrant Vitality Clinic so we can come up with a program that’s right for you!

All Your Questions About Lip Fillers, Answered

How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?

There are several dermal fillers available on the market, and we inject fillers from three big families – The Allergan Juvederm family, the Galderma Restylane family and the Revanese Versa family. How long fillers will last depends on different things, such as the composition of the filler, where it is injected and how quickly your body breaks it down and absorbs it. Generally speaking, though, fillers usually around twelve months. There are also a few collagen biostimulators on the market that we use to create volume, Sculptra and Radiesse. Unlike other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, these injectables help the body build its own collagen, and can last up to two years. As a rule of thumb, if you want to maintain your results, it is recommended to come in for an injection touch-up every 6 months, as per your injector’s advice.

Can You Get Dermal Fillers While Breastfeeding? And What About Getting Dermal Fillers While Pregnant?

This is not the best idea. Not because the fillers will necessarily harm your baby, but because we don’t know whether they will. Better be safe than sorry! Dermal fillers have not been tested for safety in pregnant and breastfeeding women, so we don’t know if there is any effect of the fillers on unborn and breastfeeding babies. We also don’t know how the mother’s body will accept this volume placement when her body if on high alert and focused on building life so, if any of these two situations applies to you, let your injector know so you can work out a different treatment for your wrinkles and folds.

Can Fillers Go Wrong?

Plain and simple, yes, they can. But the full answer is not plain and simple. Fillers complications are more likely to occur in two major cases: when you have certain preconditions that you didn’t warn your injector about, or when you go to an injector that’s not certified and experienced. People are enticed by the low prices of certain injectors and want to pay less – but there is a reason why some procedures are costly in reputable clinics such as ours. Please don’t compromise your beauty and, more importantly, your health, by opting to save a couple of hundred dollars.

Can You Put Filler in the Forehead?

If you want to address your forehead lines, Botox or a different brand of the same or similar neurotoxin is the path you usually want to take. Wrinkles that occur due to movement – a forehead wrinkle or wrinkles around the eyes – are best treated with Botox. After Botox is in place, a small amount of dermal filler can be used to correct deep wrinkles but filler injection in the forehead comes with risks and is usually the last resort.

Can You Feel Fillers in Your Lips?

No. Or more accurate, you shouldn’t! Once the pain and bruising from the injecting subside, you shouldn’t be able to feel anything, just your natural, smooth lips. If you do feel the filler, or if it appears lumpy, it may be the result of an injector who lacks experience and has injected the filler too close to the surface of the lips or it may be a result of filler not properly integrating into the tissue. Going to a reputable, experienced injector and avoiding filler injection when you are sick will decrease the likelihood of this happening.

Can You Eat After Lip Fillers?

Yes! You can eat immediately after lip injections! The real issue here is whether you can eat really hot or cold food. You are likely to be still numbed in the lips from the numbing cream, so avoid too hot and cold food because they may hurt your lips, and you won’t feel them being too hot or cold. The day after you can eat anything.

How Long After Lip Fillers Can I Fly?

One week is okay. We encourage people to wait for seven days after their filler injection because during your flight, you will be exposed to decreased cabin pressure. This can worsen your swelling and bruising, especially if you are already prone to these side effects of the injection. Additionally, the air in the aircraft is relatively dry, and fillers can attract the water from your skin and further dehydrate it. If you know you will be traveling, schedule your fillers in advance. Better safe than sorry!

Can Dermal Fillers Cause Cancer?

No! Rest assured, no filler can cause something as severe as cancer.

Can I Exercise After Fillers?

Not too early, please. Moving fast, being in a room full of sweating people, or just doing any strenuous exercise may have a risk of infection. Wait for a week to be on the safe side. Don’t worry, your body cannot change too much in a week, nor will you lose strength so quickly. After all, walking is always fine.

Can Fillers Remove Under-Eye Bags?

Yes! Fillers can be used in this area to lighten it, to make it look brighter and plumper. If you’re in Phoenix, give us a call to schedule a comprehensive consultation about the type of filler that is best for you.

Can Fillers Cause Blindness?

Blindness is indeed the worst possible outcome of fillers. Now, before you freak out, let us tell you that it is extremely rare, and there are ways to reduce the risk, which all experienced injectors know. Blindness can happen if the filler is by mistake injected into an artery. Experienced injectors have in-depth knowledge of the anatomy of your face. They know where arteries should be, which is how they reduce their chance of injecting into them.

Can Fillers Ruin Your Face?

Well, this depends on what you consider “ruining.” Is it too much filler and a face that doesn’t resemble yours anymore? Opt for an experienced and responsible injector who will always tell you whether you are making the right choice. At Vibrant Skin Bar, we don’t want to sell as much filler as possible: we want to enhance your natural beauty.

How Long After Filler Can You Have a Facial?

Not too soon, please. It’s best to wait to have a facial 2–4 weeks after your filler injection. This will allow the filler to settle and give your skin time to heal.

Can Fillers Fix a Crooked Nose?

Yes! This is another job that fillers can do quite successfully. Sometimes filler can reshape the nose without the need for surgery (and general anesthesia, and pain and downtime). Fillers can add to the sharp angles. This procedure is sometimes referred to as “liquid rhinoplasty” and is the perfect non-surgical procedure!

Can You Get Permanent Lip Fillers?

Yes, but we don’t advise anyone to get them. We’re sorry to be the bearers of bad news but permanent fillers come with a plethora of risks. It’s best to stick with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers in the lips and if you love your filled lips, you will have to come in again for another treatment when they wear out, which they will.

Can Fillers Migrate?

Fillers can migrate. Improper depth placement and product selection by injectors who don’t have a good understanding of how fillers work and how they should be injected increases this risk. Always go to trusted licensed and experienced injectors who use well-known brands of dermal fillers.

How Long After Lip Fillers Can You Kiss?

We know you want to use your beautiful lips to kiss your loved ones right away, but that’s not the best idea. Massaging your lips after the procedure, which is what kissing essentially is, should be avoided for 2 weeks post-injection. Be gentle and don’t touch your lips – neither with your fingers nor with lips that belong to someone else!

Can You Smoke Straight After Lip Fillers?

It’s best to avoid smoking right after the fillers. Try abstaining from cigarettes for up to 24 hours. Of course, you may consider stopping. You know everything about the effect of smoking on your health, so we won’t bother you!

How Long After Lip Fillers Can You Wear Lipstick?

If you want to cover the bruising, you may use a darker shade of lipstick, but wait 24 hours before wearing lipstick. Remember, lipstick also counts as pressure, and applying praessure to freshly injected lips should be avoided. Additionally, choose a brand new piece to minimize the risks of infections, and you’re good to go!

Botox Pros and Cons: What to Consider Before Getting Botox

Botox is short for its Latin name, “botulinum toxin,” and it’s a bacterium that lives freely in nature and causes botulism in humans – a fatal form of food poisoning. But don’t worry, the Botox that aestheticians work with is very pure and diluted, and it will only interrupt nerve impulses to muscles. That is why it’s especially great on the face – it treats dynamic wrinkles caused by movements of underlying muscles, so when they are injected with Botox, they relax and stop contracting, enabling smooth skin with no wrinkles.

Millions of people receive Botox treatments every year, and it is a very safe procedure, but first-timers often ask whether they should take the plunge. Even though studies have found an average of one side effect per several thousand procedures, there may be some side effects. These side effects can be minimized if you go to a reputable clinic whose injectors have had ample experience and possess excellent working knowledge of facial anatomy.

When you think about whether you should undergo Botox for the first time, you should get your info from those who administer it daily. While it’s an excellent treatment with astonishing results, Botox is not for everyone. So what are the pros and cons of Botox? We’ll list them in this piece so you can make your decision ahead of your consultation with the expert.

1. It Really Works

Botox has been proven to work and is FDA-approved. There are literally millions of clients happy with their results. Not only does it work, it practically erases wrinkles for 3 months. It’s not a fad – Botox does work, and it works very well.

2. It’s Quick and Almost Painless

It can only be days between your first thought of getting Botox and you sitting in the chair at a clinic or a medspa. The procedure is pretty fast; it takes about half an hour, including initial consultation and preparation. The injecting itself only takes 5-10 minutes! Even though Botox is administered via needles, they are extremely small, and they don’t hit any nerves. Once the procedure is complete, patients don’t feel pain.

3. There Is No Downtime

In most cases, there is no downtime with Botox. Some patients may have tiny bruises on the places where the needle hit the skin, but that is about it. Avoid heavy exercise the day of injection and wait 2 weeks before having your next facial.

4. The Results Are Quick

You will see the results of Botox – i.e., your smooth, wrinkle-free skin – within 2-7 days but it will take 2 weeks for the full result. If you want to see the full result within 3 days, Dysport would be the neurotoxin treatment of choice.

5. It’s Not Permanent

You can decide whether you want to continue doing Botox or you would rather go to the way things were. If you don’t love your results, you can just let Botox wear off in several months, and you will look as if you never had anything done.

6. There Are Few Risks

Botox is a relatively low-risk treatment. It has been researched thoroughly, and most of its risks actually exist when the patient is not in good health or the injector is not a professional. Sometimes unlicensed injectors use rip-offs of Botox that can cause harm. Avoid these risks by going into a clinic that is known for its good practice.

7. The Benefits of Botox Are Not Just Aesthetic

The primary purpose of aesthetic Botox is erasing wrinkles, but it can also reduce excessive sweating, relax muscle pain, and help with migraine relief. For those patients who grind their teeth during the night, Botox can be the solution as well. We wrote an entire post explaining this use of Botox, so if that’s something that’s bothering you, do take a look!

1. It’s Not Permanent

We already listed this in the “pro” list, and it’s a fact: the results of Botox being only temporary is both a good and a bad thing. If you like your Botox results, you will have to have it injected at least twice a year to maintain the wrinkle-free look. The results usually last three to six months, and that’s how often you will need to receive your injections.

2. It Can Trigger Allergic Reactions

Some people may exhibit allergic reactions to Botox. Should this happen, it’s essential to either be injected by a doctor or a physician assistant. If the response is treated immediately, it is most likely not to leave any consequences.

3. Some Facial Expressions May Be Lost

The trick with the main feature of Botox, its ability to paralyze muscles, is that it can warrant results that you may not like, in addition to erasing wrinkles. When improperly injected, Botox may cause the appearance of a constantly frowned or surprised look or prevent squinting. Basically, it can lead to a lack of proper facial expression.

4. It’s Costly

Paying for Botox several times a year is not exactly a walk in the park. Plainly put, Botox is relatively expensive. A single unit at our practice costs $12, but the procedure may cost anywhere from $250 to $1500, depending on where you want it injected and how much Botox is needed. If you’re based in Phoenix, we advise you to look at our Membership offers , where you can save money on your regular Botox treatments!

5. It Can Take Several Tries

Sometimes patients don’t get amazing results after their first Botox but need to come again and have the mistakes repaired. However, this rarely happens with experienced injectors who know their Botox and your face. But be wary that this can happen if you go to an injector that’s not experienced or licensed.

6. There Can Be Side Effects

Most side effects of Botox are mild and don’t cause any major discomfort, such as bruising and swelling at the injection site, as well as some headaches. But some major issues can occur in a tiny percentage of patients, such as neck pain, upper respiratory tract infection, nausea, minor loss of speech, eyelid drooping. Should this happen to you, make sure to consult with your physician immediately.

As always, we cannot emphasize enough how important it is to only go into a reputable clinic whose staff has been trained and experienced in administering Botox. Only then will you minimize the chances for anything to go wrong and end up with beautiful results.

Botox Under Eyes: How It Works and What You Need to Know

Botox: The Factsheet

To understand how Botox can solve this problem, let’s step back and see how it works. Bear with us for a moment. Botox is a medication that stops the signals from the nerves to the muscles, so without signals for moving, the muscles are relaxed. The muscles in which the Botox is injected are those that create wrinkles by contracting, so when they’re relaxed, the skin that covers them is flatter and basically wrinkle-less.

Botox is not a permanent solution, because it wears off over time, and so does its effect. This means that the signals are restored and the muscles begin to contract again, “dragging” the skin along, which means – here come wrinkles again. If you want to maintain your results, you need to come for another treatment after several months.

Botox is used for so-called dynamic wrinkles – wrinkles created by muscle movement. It reduces the following wrinkles:
• forehead wrinkles
• between the brows (frown lines)
• crow’s feet (at the sides of the eyes)
• around the mouth.

But there are uses of Botox that have not been approved by the FDA, yet, skilled and experienced injectors work their magic in other areas as well. One such use is Botox under the eyes for treating fine lines, an extension to the treatment crow’s feet.

How Effective Is Botox Under Eyes?

Even though injecting Botox to treat lines under the eyes is not approved by the FDA, it has found its off-label use. There are studies investigating the effectiveness of Botox and its results under eye, but so far, they are few. In one study, patients who received Botox in lower eyelids in addition to crow’s feet area claimed positive results when it comes to their under eye area. This may be because Botox makes the lower eyelid appear fuller and plumper, which then leads to a subtle reduce in bagginess in this area.

Are You a Good Candidate for Botox Under the Eyes?

There are not very many specific requirements for Botox patients. Generally, you need to be healthy and over the age of 18. When we say healthy, we mean with no serious health conditions or chronic neuromuscular conditions. You need to not be allergic to Botulinum toxin, the substance from which Botox is made.

Because Botox under the eyes is usually not done on its own, you usually will already be getting injections for crow’s feet at the same time.

If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, please refrain from getting Botox. The medical field does not know enough about the effects of Botox on unborn and nursing babies, so it would better to wait for a while!

What Is The Procedure for Botox Under Eyes Like?

All Botox procedures are swift and simple! As a non-surgical procedure, Botox doesn’t require any special preparations or down time. Getting Botox is often praised as the lunch time procedure, as you can be out and about in half an hour!

You will come to your injector’s office, have a conversation about wishes and expectation and establish a treatment plan. Your provider then may use some topical anesthetic cream to numb the injection site or ice. The needles they use are tiny, but they are needles nevertheless and can cause some discomfort. He or she will then inject Botox into the intended muscle. For this procedure, only two or four units of Botox will be injected on each side. If you’re a seasoned Botox goer, you know that it’s very little in comparison to other treatments such as forehead lines and frown lines. Higher doses in this area may increase the risk of complications, so it’s better to stick to small, proven doses.

Once the injections to crow’s feet and under-eye area are all done, you can go back to your normal activities: work, lunch, chill.

How Soon Will You See Results and How Long Do They Last?

You won’t see the results immediately after you leave the office as Botox needs time to work. But you won’t have to wait too long either! Botox has an onset time of about three to seven days. This means that you’ll see the results in several days, and full results become apparent within a week!

Of course, if you like your results, you will need to maintain them by having Botox injected again in several months. The effects of Botox are not permanent, and they will last for about three to four months. After this period, if you wish your results with Botox under eyes to stay, another treatment will be necessary.

How Much Does It Cost?

We can only speak generally when it comes to the cost of Botox, because many variations are included in the final price. Where will you undergo your treatment? The price differs in Los Angeles and Minnesota. Will you be injecting just your crow’s feet and under-eye area, or something else as well? What is the current state of your wrinkles and muscles? These are all issues that your injector will take into account to determine how much Botox you need for your desired results.

Typically, however, Botox costs about $12 per unit. Treating crow’s feet usually requires 16-24 units, and Botox under eye only requires a bit of Botox. That means your treatment of these areas will cost about $200-$300 per session.

If you’re in Phoenix, take a look at our pricing list and keep an eye on our monthly and holiday specials. We sometimes offer discounts on Botox, but we never compromise the quality, and it could be a great option for you!

Are There Any Side Effects?

Botox is a medicine, and as such, it can have side effects, from milder and common to those that require urgent medical response.

When you have your lower eyelid injected with Botox, risks include:
eye drooping
eye numbness
swelling of the eyelid
difficulty closing the eyes.
Other common side effects of Botox include:
flu-like symptoms (dizziness, fainting, muscle weakness)
pain at the sites of injections
bruising and swelling
neck pain

These may appear, but the majority of people treated don’t suffer from any side effects. If you do get them and they persist, contact your injector or your doctor immediately.

How to Dissolve Lip Fillers

Getting Rid of Lip Fillers

Lip fillers are one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures, and for a good reason. In just half an hour, you can get subtly enhanced or visibly bigger lips. The results are usually stunning. Another appeal of lip fillers is that they’re not permanent, so you’re not signing a contract that says these are your lips from now to eternity. How so? Fillers are made of substances that gradually break down in your body. Most often, it’s hyaluronic acid, but there are some others – make sure to check out the fillers we offer at our Med Spa. This means that your enhanced pout will disappear after several months or a year, and if you love your results, you’ll have to fill the lips again. But what if you don’t?

Dissolving Lip Fillers Naturally

Hyaluronic fillers dissolve on their own thanks to an enzyme that is naturally found in the body – Hyaluronidase. Hyaluronidase causes hyaluronic acid to degrade gradually over the course of six to 12 months. If you love your results, you might be sad to see your full lips fading away. But if you’re not too happy with them, six to 12 months is a long time to wait and hate seeing yourself in the mirror. If you changed your mind or didn’t like how much you’ve had done, find comfort in knowing that an aesthetic professional can do a reverse treatment and make you happy with your lips again in a matter of days.

As with any treatment that includes needle pricks and insertion of any substance, having your lip fillers dissolved does not come without risks.

The biggest risk is that Hyaluronidase has the potential to degrade your own natural hyaluronic acid rather than the foreign filler that it should aim for. That is why you should only let a skilled and experienced professional perform this treatment.

Another risk is that of an allergic reaction if you are allergic to Hyaluronidase, so that’s why a patch test is necessary prior to the actual injections.

Swelling and bruising are common side effects for injections, but they will subside within a few days.

Then there is a small chance that the lips could go even thinner than anticipated. This can then be treated with another round of fillers after a while.

We mentioned briefly that sometimes people could be unhappy with their results with filler, which can mean lips being too big. However, having your lip fillers dissolved can also be the solution if you’ve had the bad luck of having a poorly trained practitioner. They may place the filler in the wrong plane, creating lumps, bumps, or an unnatural looking shape.

If the filler is placed too close to the surface of the lip, it can lead to hard lumps and bumps, which looks uneven and just plain bad.

Furthermore, too much filler can lead to pain and discoloration, and sometimes poorly administered fillers can migrate and look swollen.

Being able to have your lips dissolved is a great option that you can keep in mind should something go awry when it comes to your fillers.

However, while it is a good last resort, we recommend it does stay precisely that – last resort. If you find a qualified and skilled injector who has an admirable portfolio of lips they’ve done, that increases your chances of ending up happy with your results. Good aesthetic judgment and professionalism are necessary for the best end results. Make sure your injector asks you about your wishes but tells you straight away what is possible and what’s less realistic. That’s the best recipe for a symmetric and beautiful face!

We Are So Thankful for You This Thanksgiving Season!

The Thanksgiving season encourages us to think about the many things in our lives we are grateful for and to find new ways to express that gratitude. As we wrap up our first year in business, we would like to take the opportunity to express our gratitude for our patients, colleagues and friends. We are thankful you have chosen our med spa, and we are very appreciative for the relationships we have formed. Trusting us with your most intimate concerns and appearance is not a responsibility we take lightly. We are always particularly mindful of how fortunate we are to have the honor to care for you.

As part of your care, we would like to shine a spotlight on the fact that November is National Healthy Skin Month and want to give you some insight on how you can learn to keep your skin healthy from the inside out. Eating a healthy diet can produce long term results, in fact, 80% of what goes on with our skin is internal. The things we eat and what our body ingests emotionally and physically has a great impact on the overall appearance and condition of our skin. A healthy diet includes a mixture of raw minerals, vitamins and other nutrients, acids, phytochemicals, omegas and other useful compounds that our skin and body need on a daily basis.

Eating seasonally and as close to the source as possible is not only nutritionally dense, it supports a healthy microbiome for gut and brain health. It’s also more environmentally sustainable than eating food grown and shipped from afar. Ancient health traditions such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hold that our body and mind are primed to receive different types of nourishment in rhythm with nature’s cycles and that seasonal eating aligns with these shifts within our bodies.

“Nature gives us what we need when we need it,” says Elson Haas, MD, founder and director of the Preventive Medical Center in San Rafael, Calif., and author of Staying Healthy With the Seasons.” In the fall, our livers increase fat production to prepare us for winter which ramps up glucose production for use by the brain. From pumpkin and apples to turkey and kale, many of the beloved fall foods arm our skin with all the right nutrients needed for the season. If you want to score clear, glowing and hydrated skin, check out the top foods of the season:

1. Pumpkin

Perhaps the most famous of all fall foods, pumpkin packs a major punch of nourishment, even in small amounts and especially for your skin. Pumpkins are an ultimate beauty food because they're rich in beta-carotene known to stimulate collagen production. Vitamin A also helps protect our cells and skin from damaging free radicals in the environment and is important for eye health and age-related diseases. Packed full of additional vitamins and minerals such as zinc, it is an excellent acne-fighter and promoter of cell turnover for renewal. It's also full of natural enzymes which make it a great topical mask to dissolve flaky skin cells and it is included in our featured Pumpkin facial treatment this month.

2. Pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin seeds are packed with zinc, vitamins A, C and K, and omega-3 fatty acids that help produce sebum to protect and repair your skin. Omega 3 also soothes inflammation and reduces fine lines and wrinkles by 33%.

3. Apples

Apple picking is a fun fall activity and a cup of apple cider is a nice way to cuddle up on a cold night. Apples help build collagen, increase levels of copper in the skin to aid cellular renewal and aid in healthy skin elasticity. Eating an apple a day will not only keep the doctor away, but it will also help you maintain glowing, healthy skin.

5. Pomegranate

Pomegranate is a powerful fruit rich in polyphenols that help detox the skin of free radicals while also repairing skin damaged from environmental factors such as UV radiation. Not only does pomegranate contain about 48% of your daily vitamin C, it also contains other antioxidants such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and tannins. Pomegranate is one of the ultimate blockers of free radical damage, one of the biggest causes of aging.

5. Sweet Potatoes

As fall temperatures drop, be sure to have your fair share of sweet potatoes. For that desirable dewy glow, sweet potatoes are full of beta-carotene, vitamin D and anthocyanins. These nutrients work hard in the body to neutralize oxidative stress and age-related damage to cells. Sweet potatoes are also great for maintaining skin suppleness with the use of potassium and pantothenic acid.

6. Butternut squash

Sweet and savory, a tasty and delicious fall ingredient, butternut squash boosts the skin with vitamin E, thiamin, niacin, vitamin B-6, folate, pantothenic acid, and manganese. One serving of butternut squash provides over 50 percent of the required vitamin C intake for a day. Vitamin C helps build and maintain collagen, which provides structure to skin and hair.

7. Turkey

The traditional bird eaten on Thanksgiving won’t just put you in a tryptophan coma, it will give you a boost in the vitamin selenium. Selenium boosts the effectiveness of Vitamin E to fight free radicals and assists skin elasticity and flexibility. In fact, a 3 ounce serving of turkey contains 44 percent of your daily selenium needs. If you would like to opt out on turkey this thanksgiving, Brazil nuts contain 100 percent of your daily selenium needs and are a great alternative.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Kybella vs. CoolSculpting: Which One Is Better for Double Chin Reduction?

Ok, “hate” may be too harsh of a word, but seeing your neck in the mirror? Ugh. You wish it just… went away. You know most of your friends don’t really think about their necks, nor they plan the one and only right angle when posing for a photo. People have many angles where they look good! People have options! But you? Your neck is not your friend. Your profile is not flattering at all – all due to the fat pocket that just won’t go away no matter how much you diet or exercise.

We have both good and bad news for you. The bad news is – yeah, neck fat can really be a burden, and it usually doesn’t react to restrictive diets or sweating in the gym. The good news, though, is that there are solutions to this problem, and they don’t even involve surgery. In fact, we have TWO solutions for double chin – two non-surgical treatments that promise to erase this part and let you take selfies however you like. They’re called Kybella and CoolSculpting.

Both Kybella and CoolSculpting are FDA-approved to treat this area, and while they are used for the same area and achieve similar results, the way they do it is very different. See below for details!

Who Can Get the Treatment

The non-surgical treatments for double chin, namely Kybella and CoolSculpting, are not for everyone. What does that mean? First of all, these treatments are best for non-obese persons. That’s because some fat you can simply (and healthily) lose if you take care of your calorie intake and moving your body. If you’re a non-obese person and have a double chin, mostly due to genetics, this is the treatment for you.

On the other hand, if your double chin issues are basically issues with loose skin, unfortunately, you don’t qualify, either – because these treatments target fat, not the skin. Maybe consider a neck lift instead? So if you’re a healthy individual of an average weight for your age and height suffering from a double chin, chances are you can benefit from either Kybella or CoolSculpting.

Kybella: The Factsheet

Kybella is an injectable specifically designed to combat double chin. It is actually a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which is naturally found in the human body and whose function is to break down fat cells. Once injected into the double chin, Kybella will dissolve a fat cell membrane and destroy the cell. Once these cells are destroyed, they will be metabolized and exit the body. And that’s it! The process takes time, though, as patients usually need several treatments months apart. Once it’s done, that’s it, and you won’t need any touch-ups, as the results are permanent. If you want to find out more about Kybella, make sure to check our page about the treatment!

CoolSculpting or CoolMini: The Factsheet

From the CoolSculpting kitchen comes the CoolMini device, designed to target smaller fat pockets, such as the double chin. Have you heard of CoolSculpting yet? It’s got all the rave – and for all good reasons. CoolSculpting is a device that uses the cryolipolysis process – in plain English, it’s the freezing of the fat cells. The device cools the pocket of fat so much that it freezes, and the cells die. The rest of the process is the same as with Kybella – the dead cells are broken down and metabolized. If you’re worried about the cold device touching your body, don’t feet. The fat freezes at a higher temperature than skin or muscle, so it’s risk-free. Patients usually feel the cold, but they are given a blanket and can chill – literally!

How Soon Will You See Results?

With Kybella, the process of metabolism of fat cells takes weeks. Most patients report seeing a reduction in their double chin after two sessions, and then more significant results after four sessions. Because sessions are a month apart, this means that the entire process takes at least four months. Most patients see their final results after six treatments in six months. Buckle up, it’s gonna be a long ride!
When it comes to CoolSculpting for double chin, you will notice the first results about four to five weeks after the treatments. The final results will emerge after 8 to 12 weeks. CoolSculpting also requires undergoing multiple sessions.

How Effective are Kybella and CoolSculpting Mini for Double Chin?

Patients of both treatments report excellent results. Different doctors and aestheticians talk about different results in terms of percentage and numbers, but generally, this is what happens. Kybella patients see a 10% reduction after six weeks and a 25% reduction after the series of treatments is made. In CoolSculpting Mini patients, one session can reduce neck fat by a whopping 20-25%. Both treatments offer final results that feature a strong jawline and an improved angle at which the neck intersects with the jaw! The ideal in humans is 90-105°, so the closer you get to the ideal, the more youthful you look. Now, that’s something worth waiting on!

What Is The Price of Both Treatments?

This is again a question that is best answered in person by your injector or aesthetician. Not because we’re hiding something, but because the price varies on the number of sessions, which depend on the state of your double chin. For reference, take a look at the price list at Vibrant Skin Bar in Arizona. Prices in other parts of the country may be lower or higher! If you're a regular and know how much you need, you can even buy the treatment at our online shop.

Which One Should You Choose? Kybella or CoolSculpting?

Now you know how both Kybella and CoolSculpting work on double chin removal. But which one is the right treatment for you?
As always with aesthetic treatments, the answer to this question is not easily told online without us having a look at your specific case and your own double chin.
Both treatments are non-surgical, which is a great advantage in itself. A treatment being non-surgical means that it’s less dangerous (no matter how common the procedure, there are always risks with surgery), requires fewer preparations, and less downtime. And it’s usually less painful! So in this way, whichever you opt for, you’re in for a treat because you won’t require long times off work.
If your schedule is super full and you don’t have time, maybe opt for Kybella – the treatment lasts less than half an hour. If you’re afraid of needles, skip Kybella. If you suffer from claustrophobia, maybe CoolSculpting won’t be the best for you, as you will have to wear a bandage on your head that secures the device under your chin.
Sometimes small pockets of fat cannot fit into the CoolSculpting device. In such cases, Kybella is a more viable option.
Finally, this is a decision that’s best made by your medical professional. We hope we did clear up some confusion, though, and equipped you with knowledge for better questions to ask in your clinic or med spa. The best treatment is the one that gives the best results to you – not your cousin or neighbor, who certainly have different habits or genetics than you do. Talk this through with your medical professional, and they are bound to find the perfect treatment for your double chin!
