Full, sensual lips are no longer reserved for the genetically fortunate. Everyone can achieve such a look with a single, painless intervention – a dermal filler.
Juvéderm is the go-to brand of lip fillers because it provides sensual, natural-looking lips. The added bonus of this filler is that it can be dissolved if, for any reason, you realize lip augmentation is not for you.
This article explains how Juvéderm lip fillers work, what to expect from the treatment, and how much it costs.
What is Juvéderm?
Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler designed to enhance facial features, restore lost volume, and smooth wrinkles and folds.
The Juvéderm line includes several filler products. They are all based on hyaluronic acid, but the acid concentrations in each formula vary according to the cosmetic concern they address.
Juvéderm Ultra XC is designed to reduce moderate to severe wrinkles and folds (nasolabial folds and perioral lines) and augment and define lips.
Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC and Juvéderm Vollure XC are approved to treat moderate to severe wrinkles and nasolabial folds, but they are often used off-label to augment and define the lips.
Juvéderm Volbella XC is designed for lip augmentation and the treatment of perioral lines. It is also approved for restoring lost volume in the under-eye area.
Juvéderm Voluma XC is designed to treat sunken cheeks and the chin. Medical professionals don’t use this product for lip augmentation.
Juvéderm for Lips
Juvéderm is one of the most commonly used fillers for adding volume and definition to lips. Most patients respond well to the treatment because of the filler’s soft consistency and the fact that it’s based on hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the body. This sugar compound has a high capacity for attracting and retaining water, making it ideal for plumping up lips in a natural-looking way.

This list of benefits may help you determine if the treatment is right for you.
Juvéderm lip fillers:

Involve a minimally invasive procedure.
Provide instant and long-lasting results.
Are easy to dissolve if the results are not satisfactory.
Juvéderm Appointment
A consultation with your chosen medical provider is the essential first step of the lip filler procedure. The medical provider uses the opportunity to review your medical history and lifestyle habits to determine if there are any safety risks.
Most healthy adults are eligible, but some medical conditions and medications increase the chance of side effects.
Make sure you book a treatment with a licensed Juvéderm provider to avoid potential risks and undesired results.

How to Prepare for a Juvéderm Appointment
Follow this general advice on what to avoid before your appointment. That way you can get the treatment right after the consultation.
Avoid blood thinners like ibuprofen and aspirin for one week.
Avoid these supplements for one week: St. John’s Wort, Gingko biloba, ginseng, vitamin E.
Avoid alcohol 24 hours before the treatment.
Don’t wax, bleach, or use hair removal creams above the lips before the treatment.
What Can You Expect During the Appointment?
The Juvéderm lip filler treatment is a quick, walk-in procedure that often follows the consultation if your medical provider determines you don’t need a preparation period. The treatment lasts 30-45 minutes.
The medical provider first disinfects the lips to prepare them for the procedure. Juvéderm products for lips already contain lidocaine to numb the pain, but the medical provider can apply a topical numbing cream if you have a low pain threshold.
The medical provider injects the filler into several previously marked locations on the lips or the lip line to achieve a symmetrical, natural-looking shape. After the injection, the medical provider massages the lips to prevent lumps.
You can resume your regular activities after the treatment.
Juvéderm Results
The plumping and wrinkle-reducing effects of Juvéderm are instant. However, patients can typically assess the full results once the common side effects such as swelling subside.
Juvéderm results last up to 18 months, depending on the Juvéderm formula used and the patient’s unique metabolism and lifestyle habits.
Juvéderm is safe, FDA-approved procedure for most healthy adults. It often causes only mild side effects such as swelling, bruising, and redness. They typically resolve within three weeks.
In rare cases, a Juvéderm provider may accidentally hit a blood vessel and cause severe side effects such as blindness, infection, an allergic reaction, or even stroke. This is more likely to happen when inexperienced, non-medical providers perform the procedure. That’s why it is essential to schedule the treatment with licensed medical professionals.
Juvéderm lip fillers have fulfilled many people’s dreams of having sensual, fuller lips. This cosmetic treatment enhances the lips using a safe, organic compound and provides eye-catching results.
